Dry needling uses filiform needles to address both pain and function in muscles and connective tissue. Pain in a muscle usually stems from a trigger point either located in that specific muscle or located in an adjacent muscle. Functional dry needling works to dissolve trigger points, reduce pain and improve muscle function. Dry needling creates a controlled inflammatory response which increases blood flow and speeds up tissue healing to help reduce tension and pain in the muscle. Functional dry needling can help increase muscle function by helping regulate neuromuscular activation.
